AIS Limited was incorporated on the 20th October 1999. The company has sought to carve out a niche for itself as a provider of comprehensive, international, and advanced financial services with a sharp regional focus, mainly in the Turkish, Black Sea Rim and South-eastern Mediterranean region.

 Although the company is very young, it is managed and run by a team of dedicated and experienced professionals with a proven track record in the sector.

Our Team

Birol Atikol – Managing Partner

Birol enjoyed a long career in various international investment banks and financial institutions in London as a proprietary trader, hedge fund manager and Chief Investment Officer until 2006. During that time, Birol also set-up and ran regulated asset management and advisory companies in Europe. Since 1999, he has lead-managed various projects in the areas of finance, energy and real estate and is the principal & president in every company of the AIS Group and acts also as the controlling shareholder of the Group, which includes Buhar Enerji. Birol holds a BSc in Mathematics and Actuarial Science from Istanbul Bogazici University (1991). He is fluent in English and German and is married with one child.


Matthew Vogel – Partner

Matthew is Partner and Shareholder in the AIS Group since 2005, relocated from London to Istanbul while having worked from London and Istanbul.  Prior to moving to Istanbul in 2011, the American and British national was Head of the top-ranked Emerging Europe, Middle East, and Africa Research team at Barclays Capital, after a long and distinguished track record of work on the global emerging markets which began at the World Bank in 1990.  During a 20-year period in development and investment banking, Matthew worked extensively on Turkey, among other leading markets such as Russia and South Africa.  He has been a strong advocate of Turkey’s economic prospects for years. Matthew holds a BA in Latin American Studies and Economics from the University of Texas (1988) and an MA in Economics from the Instituto Torcuato diTella (Argentina, 1989). He is fluent in Spanish, struggles in Russian and is learning Turkish.  He and his Russian wife have two children. 


Kutluhan Onder – Project Director

Kutluhan Onder (31) has been in the group in excess of 10 years. He mainly acts as chief of staff and his responsibilities range from team management to project development.

He has “hands-on” approach to public and buraucratic relations during development of the projects as well as site works. He is the pivot person coordinating and communicating between the top management and execution level. Kutluhan is married with one child.



Sezer Sen  - Project Director on Wind Energy Department


Sezer graduated from Bahcesehir University with a BSc in Energy System Engineering in 2015.  He worked on both construction and field works in various Wind Energy Companies around Turkey at last 4 years. He is the youngest member of the team. He has lead wind energy department in Alternatif Energy since March 2016. He is fluent in English. 



Can Hodoglu - Project Developer


Can graduated from Istanbul University with a BSc in Environmental Engineering in 2012, he aslo holds a MSc in Hyraulic and Water Resources Engineering from Istanbul Technical University. Currently, he is studying in Istanbul University for PhD on Environmental Engineering.  He has many researches on fluid dynamics and also have a scientific paper about it. He joined us at Alternatif Enerji as a project developer at May 2016. He is fluent in English.



Ugur Ildem - Assistant Specialist


Ugur graduated from Anadolu University Department of Business. After graduation he worked for various banks around Turkey. He has been in group since the beginning of 2016. He is working as a accounting and operations supervisor on the team. He is recently married.



Halil Cetin – Project Engineer at Geothermal Department


Halil is one of the most dynamic members of our team. He graduated from Canakkale 18 Mart University with BSc in Geothermal Engineering in 2008. He has his own company  on Geothermal Energy and has got 9 years experience. He is the advisor of Buhar Enerji since 2011.
